-Focusing on Traditional Sacred Dance layered with Tribal Belly Dance
Beginning with a historical look at sacred and gypsy dances, we discover how they relate to each other and to Tribal Belly Dance, and how they survived. Movement starts with yoga for dance, then into dance drills before we begin learning and/or collectively creating choreography. Tenley teaches a synergy of traditional temple dance from India and Bali, layered with her distinctive Tribal style, which tells the story of the Gypsy Trail.
There is space in the day for the spontaneous and intuitive, as we create a sacred temple and sanctuary together to learn, share, heal, and grow. Each workshop closes with an interactive tsok (feast offering to the 6 realms including ourselves).

Dance: Tenley considers herself a dance collector, weaving a selection of dance forms from around the world. Based on Tribal Belly Dance, she adds elements of Flamenco including fans, Persian & Central Asian, Arabic, Indian classical Odissi and folkloric Khalbelia, Balinese, breaks, and an improvisational response to what the moment calls for. This diversity reflects her years of studying with masters, both locally and abroad. Classes start with toning, strengthening, and drills to support a dancer’s body. Based in the Bay Area, she maintains her travels for study, performance, and teaching the rich diversity of the planet's dance, costumes, rituals, and traditions.
Yoga: Classes are a detailed look at alignment, energetic pathways in the body, pranayama, breath awareness, and the cultivation of a long term practice for optimum health. Tenley is inspired by the Jivamukti lineage, Vinyasa, Chi Gung, and the fluidity of dance to create a strong, dynamic, and thorough practice activating the body, breath, and energy centers. She has studied various forms of yoga since '94, with a focus on Vinyasa and Ashtanga. Her practice has developed due to the guidance of two exceptional Yoginis. Additionally, her fluid style of asana is influenced by the grace of dance, while dedication to the integrity of asanas and their root lineages are intended to assist others on their journey of awakening.
